Job Description

Role : Senior Paralegal

Location : Greenbelt, MD (fully onsite)

Duration : Duration: 8/1/25 - 5/31/2026 (potential 1 year extension)

THE ROLE:

Education: Requirements include paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least 1 year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted

Required Skills:

  • At least 2 years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order).
  • At least 1 year of experience in automated litigation support. Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.

Day-to-day Responsibilities: Work under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, perform moderately complex legal research; synopsize transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; review case related materials and, for example, identify potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; write preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.

  • Provide a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities. Support assignments of this nature involve the form, content and issues of legal instruments and documents, and the steps and procedures involved in processing, storing, and retrieving legal actions and legal information pertaining to the activities of the client
  • Provide litigative case management. Annotate deficiencies in case materials, e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements, and request further investigation by investigative personnel to correct deficiencies
  • Serve as contact person for assigned cases and provides information and assistance concerning status or relevant procedural issues
  • Compile, organize, and index various discovery and evidence exhibits for trial, witness testimony as it relates to specific criminal charge evidence. Work closely with assigned attorney(s) to ensure material is efficiently arranged
  • Provide technical assistance to attorneys with e-discovery platforms and document review systems
  • Produce and provide to the attorney the appropriate legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses at the appropriate time during those court proceedings
  • Prepare and coordinate exhibits for trial which typically involves a wide range of visual materials including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models. Depending on the nature and complexity of the case, personally prepare trial exhibits, or initiates preparation by other appropriate staff or contractors to ensure timely production prior to the trial date. Maintain accounting systems for materials to be used as exhibits in grand jury proceedings and trials, prepare lists and tables to correlate the exhibits with grand jury transcripts, and keeps a strict account of the exhibits used in such proceedings
  • Provide automated litigation to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations. Provide technical in court support by utilizing various software applications e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos, and marking and annotating the exhibit list during testimony
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the assigned client attorneys, which typically involves automation support or other administrative subject matter areas
  • Using established databases, perform data searches, report design, and other data retrieval assignments
  • Open, maintain, and close case files to include receiving newly opened case files and taking necessary measures to notify the proper client agency of service and to obtain litigation report and/or other needed case information
  • Establish and update database to track receipt of cases, upcoming deadlines, and other case information. Keep attorneys and appropriate staff members informed of the status of cases
  • Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that established deadlines are met
  • Physically maintain case files and case related material in status within a filing system that is accessible and enables easy retrieval
  • Close case file in a timely manner. Purges unnecessary documents and forwards files to archives
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents, correspondence, and other related material from templates including subpoenas, liens, come ups and writs, transmittal of pleadings, status updates to client agencies, notices to adverse counsel and/or co-counsel, and submits for client attorney review and approval prior to filing/issuance
  • Maintain client attorney and court calendars, schedule court reporters, witness, and conference as required
  • Answer outside inquiries not requiring legal interpretations and refers other questions to appropriate office members. Exercise judgement and discretion in determining information provided to telephone inquiries and visitors
