Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE

The EHS Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving the safety, health, and environmental standards within the Otter Tail Corp plastics division. This position involves developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and programs that ensure a safe workplace and compliance with applicable regulations. A strong focus is given to actively engage and participate in environmental compliance practices including Tier II chemical inventory reporting, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) planning, air emissions permitting and monitoring, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation, and storm water management. The EHS Specialist also leads efforts in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to proactively identify and mitigate workplace risks. This role works closely with various departments to train employees, address hazards, and foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Develop and implement health and safety plans, protocols, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

· Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.

· Collaborate with management to develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills.

· Monitor workplace environments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

· Manage and oversee environmental permit applications.

· Conduct inspections and audits to meet permit and regulatory requirements.

· Manage the ESG reporting process.

· Research and provide feedback on EHS related requests for information.

· Provide training to employees on safety procedures, regulations, and best practices.

· Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.

· Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and regulatory compliance.

· Coordinate waste disposal, pollution control, and other environmental programs.

· Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and remediation of compliance issues.

· Stay updated on current regulations and safety standards related to occupational health and environmental safety.

· Lead employee safety committees and encourage participation in safety initiatives.

· Ensure the availability and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

· Ensure contractors are in compliance with all company rules and regulations.

· Serve as the functional leader for the Workers' Compensation program, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents, coordinating with insurance providers, and facilitating the return-to-work program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· At least five years of recent related Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) experience

· Tier II

· SPCC

· SWPPP

· Air emissions permitting and monitoring

· JSA & JHA

EDUCATION :

· Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.

· Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification.

· 5+ years of experience in EHS management.
