Job Description

Job Title: Associate Designer

Location: New York City

Reports To: Art Director

Time Commitment: Permalance - 40 hours/week with potential to become full-time in the future.

Pay Transparency: $5,000/month (equivalent to a $60,000 annual salary)

VinePair is seeking a permalance Associate Designer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is passionate about designing for media in the food and beverage space, and excited to join a fast-paced newsroom in a dynamic startup environment. This position will be splitting their time evenly and working closely with our Brand Partnerships and Editorial teams under the supervision of our Art Director.

This is a 40 hour/week position in-person Monday - Thursday, and remote on Friday. Candidates must be based in or near the New York City area to commute to the VinePair office. This role has the potential to become full-time in the future.

What You’ll Do

  • Create editorial artwork, illustrations, and photo treatments that accompany articles and features, enhancing the reader experience.
  • Design compelling social graphics that engage our audience and extend the VinePair brand across platforms.
  • Collaborate with the brand partnerships team to design engaging pitch decks, one-sheets, and client-facing materials that effectively communicate campaign concepts and proposals.
  • Design visually compelling and realistic mockups to accompany client pitch decks, showcasing the scope of what VinePair can do for campaign assets such as infographics, social mocks, and interactive solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with design trends, particularly in the food, beverage, and lifestyle spaces, and proactively suggest new ideas and formats.
  • Be a champion of the VinePair brand. Read, consume, watch, and become well-versed with the content produced on our platforms and channels.

Who You Are

  • 1-2 years of experience in a design role, preferably in the editorial, agency, media, or food and beverage space.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates creativity, versatility, and attention to detail with an emphasis on strong typography, layout, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), proficiency in After Effects and Premiere Pro are a plus but not required for this role. Knowledge of interactive design software such Ceros is a plus but not required. Working knowledge of workflow software such as Asana, Dropbox, Google Drive, Powerpoint.
  • Exceptional deck-design skills with a proven ability to make powerpoints look like works of art.
  • Strong illustration skills and style that works within VinePair’s dynamic aesthetic.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and efficiently prioritize tasks while communicating to the necessary teams when needed.
  • Passion for the drinks industry and general knowledge of major brands.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to commute to our NYC offices 4/days a week.
  • Must love dogs (Our offices are dog-friendly!)
